Author Guidelines

Before submitting your manuscript to the Journal of Nutritional Research & Dietetics, please ensure that your study aligns with the journal’s aims and scope, which focus on nutrition science, dietetics, clinical nutrition, and related health sciences.

Manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the journal’s formatting and submission requirements. Careful adherence to these guidelines will facilitate a smooth and timely review process.

1. Structure of Submission Files

To ensure a double-blind peer review process, the following files must be prepared separately before submission: Title Page and Manuscript File

Author names, affiliations, and identifying information must appear only in the Title Page file and must not be included in the Manuscript file.

A similarity report is required only after the manuscript has been accepted for publication.

1.1. Cover Letter

During the submission process, authors may use the “Comments for the Editor” section as a cover letter. In this section, authors may briefly summarize the purpose and main findings of the study, explain why the manuscript is suitable for the journal, and confirm that the work is original and not under consideration elsewhere.

1.2. Title Page

The Title Page must include: the full title of the manuscript; full names of all authors; institutional affiliations (department, institution, city, country); the corresponding author’s name, email address, and full postal address; ORCID iD(s); an author contributions statement; acknowledgements (if applicable); funding information (if applicable); a conflict of interest statement; and an ethical approval statement (if applicable). If the manuscript is derived from a thesis or was previously presented at a scientific meeting, this must be clearly stated on the Title Page.

1.3. Manuscript

The manuscript must be prepared in accordance with the following structure. To ensure a double-blind peer review process, no author-identifying information should appear in the manuscript file.

1.3.1. General Formatting

Manuscripts must be submitted as a single Microsoft Word file (*.doc or *.docx), formatted on A4 paper with 2.5 cm margins. The text must be written exclusively in clear, grammatically correct English using Times New Roman, 12-point font. To ensure a double-blind peer review process, author names and institutional information must not appear in the manuscript file. If the manuscript is derived from a thesis or previously presented at a scientific meeting, this information must be stated in the Title Page file.

The journal does not impose a strict word limit. As a general guideline, research articles typically range between 3,000 and 8,000 words, while review articles usually range between 5,000 and 10,000 words. Manuscripts falling outside these ranges may still be considered, provided their scope and academic quality are appropriate.

1.3.2. Title, Abstract, and Keywords

The title should be concise, informative, and clearly reflect the main focus of the study.

The abstract must be between 150 and 300 words. For research articles, the abstract should clearly and concisely state the objective of the study, the methodology applied, the principal results obtained, and the main conclusions. For review articles, the abstract should summarize the aim and scope of the review, outline the central themes addressed in the literature, and present the main conclusions or implications derived from the review.

Provide 3–5 keywords immediately after the abstract. Keywords should not duplicate words already included in the title where possible.

1.3.3. Main Text

The main text should be structured according to the type of article submitted.

Research articles are expected to include sections such as Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion.

Review articles may be organized using appropriate thematic or structured headings. The manuscript must be written in clear and academically appropriate English.

1.3.4. References

All references must be prepared in accordance with APA 7 style and cited consistently throughout the manuscript using the author–date system.

Single author: Thompson, 2021 or (Thompson, 2021)
Two authors: Thompson and Mac, 2020  or (Thompson & Mac, 2020)
Three or more authors: Thompson et al., 2020 or (Thompson et al., 2020)

References should be formatted in APA 7 style. Below are examples for citing an article, a book, and a book chapter:

For an article: Özenoğlu, A., Anul, N., & Özçelikçi, B. (2023). The relationship of gastroesophageal reflux with nutritional habits and mental disorders. Human Nutrition & Metabolism33, 200203. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.hnm.2023.200203

For a book: Geissler, C., & Powers, H. J. (Eds.). (2023). Human nutrition. Oxford University Press.

For a book chapter: Polsky, S., Catenacci, V. A., Wyatt, H. R., & Hill, J. O. (2014). Obesity: Epidemiology, etiology, and prevention. In A. C. Ross, B. Caballero, R. J. Cousins, K. L. Tucker, & T. R. Ziegler (Eds.), Modern nutrition in health and disease (11th ed., pp. 771–785). Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

1.3.5 Tables and Figures

Tables and figures must be clearly numbered using Arabic numerals and cited in the text in consecutive order. They may be presented within the manuscript at appropriate points or placed after the references section. Each table and figure must include a clear and descriptive title.

2. Authorship Definition and Responsibilities

The journal promotes transparency in authorship and requires all authors to clearly state their individual contributions. All listed authors must have made a substantial scientific contribution to the study. This includes meaningful involvement in the conceptualization or design of the work, data collection, analysis, interpretation, or manuscript preparation.

All authors must have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for the content of the work. The order of authorship should be determined by mutual agreement among all authors. Author contributions must be explicitly stated in the Title Page file.

3. Ethical Considerations

Studies involving human participants or animals must comply with relevant ethical standards and institutional regulations. Authors must state that ethical approval was obtained, including the name of the ethics committee and approval number, in the Title Page file. For human studies, informed consent must be confirmed. For animal studies, compliance with applicable care and use regulations must be declared. Manuscripts lacking appropriate ethical information may be rejected.

4. Duplicate Submission and Redundant Publication

Simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal is strictly prohibited. Manuscripts that have been previously published or are under consideration elsewhere will not be considered.

If any part of the work has been published previously, this must be clearly disclosed and appropriately cited. Reuse of previously published material is permitted only with proper citation and, where necessary, editorial approval.

5. Scientific Style

All abbreviations must be defined at first mention and should be avoided in the title and abstract where possible. The International System of Units (SI) must be used consistently throughout the manuscript. If non-SI units are used, their SI equivalents must also be provided.

6. Plagiarism Policy

The journal does not accept manuscripts containing plagiarism or exhibiting unacceptable similarity levels. The editorial office may screen submissions using similarity detection software. Authors may be required to submit a similarity report upon request or after acceptance.

7. Online Submission System

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system, powered by Open Journal Systems (OJS). The platform allows authors to upload manuscripts and track the progress of their submissions throughout the peer-review process.

Detailed guidance on using the system is available at:
